In case of death, dismissal, resignation, absence or illness of the President that lasts more than two months, or in case his term of office has expired and a new president has not been elected due to some impediments, or other similar circumstances, the First Vice President shall assume the powers and responsibilities of the President with the approval of the Leader, and a shura consisting of the Speaker of the Islamic Shura Majlis, Judiciary Chief, and the First Vice President shall be obliged to arrange for the election of a new President within a maximum period of fifty days. In case of the death of the First Vice President or other circumstances that prevent him from performing his duties, or if the President does not have a First Vice President, the Leader shall appoint another person in his place.
